As with many knit/purl patterns this one, too, is double sided! That would lend itself well to a scarf or shawl edging, or some other garment that would be seen on both sides.
Cast on a multiple of 10 stitches.
Row 1 – right side: * Knit 2, purl 2, knit 6; repeat from * to end.
Row 2: * Purl 5, knit 3, purl 2; repeat from * to end.
Row 3: * Knit 2, purl 4, knit 4; repeat from * to end.
Row 4: * Purl 3, knit 5, purl 2; repeat from * to end.
Row 5: * Knit 2, purl 6, knit 2; repeat from * to end.
Row 6: * Purl 1, knit 7, purl 2; repeat from * to end.
Row 7: * Knit 2, purl 8; repeat from * to end.
Row 8: * Purl 1, knit 7, purl 2; repeat from * to end.
