Rhombu stitch is easy for the novice knitter to work in the round.
Cast on a multiple of 6 stitches.
Rounds 1 - 2: Purl 4, * knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, knit 1, purl 1.
Rounds 3 - 4: Purl 3, * knit 2, purl 4; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, knit 2, purl 1.
Rounds 5 - 6: Purl 2, * knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, knit 3, purl 1.
Rounds 7 - 8: Purl 1, * knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to last 5 stitches, knit 3, purl 2.
Rounds 9 - 10: Purl 1, * knit 2, purl 4; repeat from * to last 5 stitches, knit 2, purl 3.
Rounds 11 - 12: Purl 1, * knit 1, purl 5; repeat from * to last 5 stitches, knit 1, purl 4.
Repeat Rounds 1 - 12.
